Ros Ballaster is Professor of Eighteenth-Century Studies in the Faculty of English, Oxford University (Mansfield College). Several of her publications have addressed the interaction of 'fictions of fantasy' such as the fairy tale and the oriental tale with the rise of the 'realist' novel in Europe. These include: Fables of the East: Selected Tales 1662-1785 (2005) and a monograph entitled Fabulous Orients: Fictions of the East in England 1662-1785 (2005), as well as two articles - 'Eovaai and the Fiction of Fantasy in Eighteenth-Century England' (2020), and 'Secret History, Oriental Tale, and Fairy Tale' (2017). On a different note, Jane Austen's Fashion Bible will be published in October 2025.
